sanctuary

created in 2023, sanctuary explores the idea of safety, calm and emotional refuge through black-and-white double exposure photography. the series depicts members of jones’s close family within spaces they consider their own sanctuaries, merging portraiture with meaningful environments to suggest an intimate connection between person and place. the use of double exposure allows inner emotional states and external surroundings to coexist within a single image, visually reinforcing the layered nature of sanctuary as both physical and psychological. black and white is used to strip the images of distraction, placing emphasis on form, mood and emotion, while lending a timeless and contemplative quality to the work. together, the images reflect on sanctuary not as a fixed location, but as a deeply personal space shaped by memory, belonging and emotional security.
